System and Software Engineer

I hold BSEE and MSEE degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and have been taking classes and learning new techniques and computer languages ever since graduation.

  • Over 38 years experience.
  • Employed by three of the country's premier aerospace companies as a:
    • communication system analyst,
    • embedded avionic system software developer,
    • software configuration manager, and
    • project software builder and distributor.
  • Full life cycle experience on major projects in the roles of:
    • technical analyst,
    • software developer,
    • supervisor,
    • manager, and
    • technology study leader.
  • Functional responsibility for 50 people; project responsibility for 25.
  • Excellent technical writer and editor.

During my career, I

  • created analysis and simulation programs for communications systems,
  • developed software for various time-sharing computer operating systems, VAX and UNIX,
  • wrote programs in FORTRAN, C/C++, several assembly languages, UNIX shell languages and Tcl/Tk,
  • developed real-time, embedded, flight software for military aircraft,
  • formulated software development plans for major new aircraft projects,
  • headed a group investigating integrated software development tools and processes,
  • oversaw and coordinated computer system administrators, and
  • performed project software builds and configuration management on UNIX systems, first with RCS and then with ClearCase.

I first saw a ClearCase demonstration as part of a Silicon Graphics, Incorporated, presentation in early 1994 and have used ClearCase daily for 7 years, merging concurrent development branches into configured ones and performing configured software builds.

I also develop and maintain web pages for several organizations using Dreamweaver and Fireworks on Windows computers. These applications incorporate HTML, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL.
